Console Games EP 12

LET IT DIE is a single player hack and slash game. The goal is to start at the bottom of a tower and make your way up. Sounds easy right? Maybe if each floor wasn’t filled of enemies how are trying to stop you. As if that wasn’t bad enough if you don’t make it to an elevator (these reference checkpoints.) you have to restart at the previous elevator and lose all progress. The game is free to play on PlayStation and I have played it before. It was definitely something that required time, patience, and a bit of skill in fighting games. They had micro transactions but it was something so little has continuing in the same spot when you die for 25 cents. Just like an arcade machine.

If you haven’t played this game you need too. This is one of my favorite games. If your a fan of horror or shooting zombies in first person this is the game for you. Resident Evil 7 Bio hazard is the first game of its series to be a FPS. This gives the game the chills of not knowing what is behind you and also looking everywhere. I have played this game and after watching a YouTuber JackSepticEye play this game i saw there it many different ways to approach situations. There are also mini games like blackjack with extra perks and a high risk.

Personal learning plan

My goals for the next 2 weeks included finding a stable way to work from home. This was difficult for me as I have little to no Internet at home (2.4 – 58.9 kbps) thanks to living in the woods. Although through talking with some of my homeschool administrators I’ve been able to acquire a laptop that’ll hopefully improve my chances of reliably turning in work. Although I’ve run into issues setting up the laptop to do schoolwork it has already helped me work on multiple assignments so I believe this will be a big help when it comes to finishing classwork.

Construct 3 Games

Official Construct 3 Logo I found At This Link: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/Construct_3_Logo.svg

I have been spending a decent bit of time playing games on Construct 3. You may have noticed that other members have posted games they have made; I would recommend checking them out if you haven’t already. Of course, you can find some other games from other people just by going to the website itself. There are some decent games, such as one game I played called “Pixel Bear Adventure” by someone named “GTGJon”.

CodeHS

Recently we started courses on a website called CodeHS. This website has lessons that help teach programming through videos and short exercises. The course that I am taking is on SQL. It teaches us some basic code for sorting tables using Harry Potter as an example. The videos are short but easy to understand, and they are followed up by an example of what was just taught, as seen above. After the example, we are given our own tasks to code, such as pulling up all of the people in the table with the last name Weasley. Overall, it’s simple and easy to learn but fun.

How to manage time

There are many ways to manage your time. The three most important things are eliminating half-work which is when your mind wanders to something else when you are working on something, you should only focus on one thing. The second thing is to do the most important thing first and lastly you should hold yourself to a schedule but not a deadline, you should make a habit of completing things. There are many other ways to manage your time but these are the most important and they can help in any situation like at the gym or at school.

Game Reviews- Colby Rider

For this blog post, I’ll be writing some short(ish) reviews of games I’ve been playing recently. I will also give them a score from 1 to 10. I’ll first start with the game I’ve put the most time into in the past two weeks, Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Animal Crossing New Horizons (which I’ll be calling ACNH from now on) is a life simulation game ran in real time where you are taken to a deserted island to start your new life. Along with you on this trip are 2 random animal friends, and the Nook bunch.

The first couple days of island life are somewhat mundane, filled with tasks such as pulling weeds, collecting wood, and talking to your new neighbors. You can also donate bugs and fish to blathers, who will eventually put these creatures into a museum. These tasks might sound boring, but they’re actually very fun, especially when the game opens up more.

After about 4 real life days, the game opens up immensely and your true island life begins. I cannot explain how ope this game is, especially compared to the past animal crossing games. There are no specific tasks for you to go for (besides a main “story” line from Nook), you do what you want when you want. It’s a very relaxing game and it definitely helps with the current social distancing. situation. I give ACNH a 10/10, if you have a switch, BUY IT!! (I’ve already put 70 hours into this game, please send help.)

This next review will actually be short, it’s about Doom Eternal. The first rebooted Doom game from 2016 is amazing. The fast pace combat combined with the amazing environments and enemies makes for an amazing experience. Doom Eternal takes all of the things the 2016 Doom did and does it (mostly) better.

In this game, demons from Hell and other planets have taken over Earth, and humanity’s only hope is the Doom Slayer. You rip and tear your way to a burned and gore ridden earth, where you must stop the demons from continuing their attacks. Earth is not the only planet you visit, however. You will also find yourself in the core of mars, the lower cities of hell, and some other crazy looking planets.

The final mission of this game is absolutely awesome, and I recommend it to anyone who likes shooter campaigns. Sadly, the multiplayer falls short in this game. The 2016 Doom had a super fun team death match and demon hunt mode, which I loved. This game just has a “Battlemode”, where one slayer takes on two player controlled demons. It’s fun for a couple matches, but gets stale quickly.

The single player also has a problem, the Marauder enemies. These beasts demand full attention when they are in a battle, and their “mid range” fights are super annoying to deal with, which ruins the fast paced combat of the game. Besides those two gripes, I think Doom Eternal is a great game. I give it an 8/10.

That concludes my game reviews. As I’m writing this, Persona 5 Royal just came out, which is an enhanced version of one of my favorite games. If I can, I might write a review of that too when I’m finished it’s 100 some hour campaign.

3D Face Shields

The FASTEnER Lab at Shepherd University has set up a production line of 3D printers to make face shields for local EMS and health care workers. In addition to the 3D printers at Shepherd, more than 20 are on loan from Jefferson and Berkeley County schools. Mrs. Thomas has been volunteering in the lab.

Frames for the face shields are made on the 3D printers – two frames per build plate. It takes about 3.5 hours to complete the printing,

Code.org multi screen app

Last week in class we have had the opportunity to design our own multi screen app on code.org. As the name suggests the multi screen app is a app with multiple screen as you click on certain features of the app the purpose of the multi screen app is to help with the basic knowledge of how developers make screen eve though this is just the basic step it gives a look into how they are made. down below there is a link to the multi screen app that I’ve created please feel free to give it a try

Working Together

Blood Pressure Screening

Therapeutic Services students invited the Coding, App, and Game Design students to a blood pressure screening. This lays the groundwork for a collaborative project to design a educational app for to promote healthy blood pressure for West Virginians.
